Last Saturday, students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade were selected to present at the 9th Annual Kenilworth Science and Technology Charter School Science Fair.
Below are some examples of the amazing work our students researched!
LIGHTING A SOLUTION
“I’m going to be seeing which candle burns faster, regular white candles or colored candles, because my mama always have candles burning in her room and I realized some go out faster than others.”
MUSIC MAKES THE PLANT GROW
“My project consists of checking the effects of music on the development of a plant, in this case, a red bean seed. I have put music to one to define the difference between the one that has music and the one that does not have any kind of music.”
ACID RAIN OVER THE BATON ROUGE AREA
“I’ve chosen this project because there is a problem in which we are living now (acid rain) and it has to be solved before it causes problems in our environment, as well as our lives.”
#HOMEMADE HAIR GEL
“My project is called “Homemade Hair Gel”. Some people with natural hair have to look for lots of products to lay their edges. But also people with relaxed hair want their edges to be laid all day and don’t wanna have to put about 6 different gels to have it work.”
HURRICANE HAZARD MITIGATION FOR BUILDINGS
“The problem is that there is significant damage to houses/buildings when hurricanes are there. The purpose of our project is to find out what type of roof is best suited for houses/buildings so that there won’t be a lot of damage when the hurricanes hit.”
“Wouldn’t it be amazing to know that a lemon can make a LED light lightup?”
ACID, BASE, OR NEUTRAL
“The red cabbage indicator lab was to understand how different chemicals, acids, and bases, react and change color because of it. The lab was also to understand neutralization reactions and why they occur.”
USING HYDROPOWER TO LIFT A LOAD
“Can using hydropower lift a small weight?”
WHAT THE pH IN YOUR WATER?
“We all know that drinking water is healthy, but do you know that some water is healthier than others. Some water is high is alkaline, which is good while others are high in acid, which is not good.”
RETHINK YOUR DRINK
“We will be doing what common beverage has the most sugar. Our project talks about how much sugar is in common pop drinks. We want to find out which has the most. Our project is important because a lot of kids nowadays only drink pop so we’re trying to find the healthiest for kids.”
