On Friday, March 31, members of the Orlando community gathered for a night of Celebrating History and Building Future at City Year Orlando's Red Jackets Rock. This Gatsby-inspired event included a cocktail reception, live band and delicious food stations. Held at the Ballroom at Church Street, hundreds of community leaders and AmeriCorps members rocked the night away in a beautiful venue. Throughout the evening, City Year Orlando told the story of five years in Orlando through testimonials from alumni, students, and keynote speakers.

An emotional moment from the crowd took place when Diana Gomez, a City Year Orlando AmeriCorps member serving on the Universal Orlando Foundation team, described her journey. She said, “I have never learned as much as I have with City Year, I have never been as challenged, or encouraged as I have in my two years of service, and I’ve never grown or made an impact like the way I do here.”
Jordan Plante, executive director at City Year Orlando, shared her story about her experiences at City Year and how it shaped her life. She summed it up when she said “City Year will always be close to my heart. The past five years of service have been unforgettable. I will forever look back on the hard work I’ve done at City Year with pride. It has been a pleasure serving our community.”
The spirit of service that is carried throughout City Year and in Orlando was felt by all who attended. The event brought together a group of people to celebrate student success and inspired us to look toward the future - and, reminded us that Red Jackets Rock!
