On November 21, more than 600 dynamic women leaders joined us for City Year Boston's sixth annual Women's Leadership Breakfast!
We were excited to welcome MBTA General Manager Dr. Beverly Scott, the first woman to serve as General Manager in the 115 year history of the MBTA. Dr. Scott shared both insights gained during her trailblazing career and her perspective on the power of young idealists in service with us:
"That to me is why City Year and people like you--all of us are making a difference. When you can see that light [of hope] that comes back in and that kid is engaged, that family is engaged, or that parent is coming to PTA meetings again--that is community. That is about aspiration. That is about lifting as we climb, and it doesn't get any better than that."
--Beverly Scott, PhD, General Manager, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA)
With your help and in partnership with Boston Public Schools, more than 10,000 students will benefit from the mentorship and guidance City Year AmeriCorps members give them this year. These young leaders are making a strong impact on our community - in fact, just last year, 90% of students in third through ninth grade who worked with City Year Boston corps members demonstrated improvement on their literacy assessments.
The dedication of champions like you makes this progress possible. If you are interested in learning more about how you can be involved with City Year Boston, please contact Julianna Morrall, Senior Manager of Individual Giving, 617.927.2470.
