"Every time City Year shows up anywhere, it is the living embodiment of the effort we're making to define the terms of interdependence - so that our children and our grandchildren will live in the world of most peaceful times... even though my heart was singing 23 years ago when I ambled into City Year, I believe that it's more important today." - President Bill Clinton
More than 2,000 supporters, partners, staff and corps members united to celebrate City Year’s 25th Anniversary on Thursday, May 22, 2014. This spectacular event, held at a sold-out Boston Symphony Hall, honored President Bill Clinton with City Year’s 25th Anniversary Legacy Award.
President Bill Clinton was presented with the 25th Anniversary Legacy Award for his extraordinary leadership of national service through the creation of AmeriCorps, his longtime support of City Year in the United States, and his role in the founding of City Year South Africa.
The gala opened with inspirational remarks from 6th grader, Joel Montero, a student at Orchard Gardens School in Roxbury, MA who has received support from City Year AmeriCorps members for years. The evening also included performances by actor, writer and City Year Los Angele board member, Hill Harper, the Boston Pops Orchestra under the direction of Keith Lockhart, and Judith Hill of “The Voice” and the Oscar-winning documentary, “20 Feet From Stardom.” Click here to watch the gala’s opening video.
