City Year Sacramento Announces Cynthia Hester as New Board Chair

City Year Sacramento, an education nonprofit that recruits young adults for a year of service in public schools, is pleased to announce that Cynthia Hester has been selected as the organization’s new Board Chair.

“Cynthia leads with empathy and puts human connections at the heart of everything she does,” said Macey Amissah-McKinney, Executive Director of City Year Sacramento. “Whether it’s across global cross-functional marketing teams, customer advocacy programs, or leading her team through the challenges of an ever-evolving industry, Cynthia strives to find both effectiveness and empathy. We are excited to have such an exceptional leader join our Board of Directors.”

A passionate storyteller and marketing leader, Cynthia is an effective senior executive with experience in global marketing, customer advocacy, strategic planning, and DEI. She is focused on showcasing the human impact of innovative technology and how it can make a difference in people’s lives. Cynthia currently serves as the Director of Global Customer Programs for Google Cloud and has held roles at HP, VMware, Salesforce, and New Relic.

“I’m excited to take on this new role for an organization I deeply believe in,” Hester said. “With the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the academic achievement of underserved students, the work of City Year has never been more important. I am inspired by City Year’s strategic vision to create the conditions for the students farthest from opportunity to meet their potential and to develop diverse leaders who can work across lines of difference.”

Cynthia is actively involved in supporting grassroots organizations focused on women’s health, social justice, education and environmental issues that impact our world. Her philanthropic work includes support of Unapologetech, The Femmy’s (Femtech Awards), Future Females Slovenia, The Biomimicry Institute, Center for Environmental Health, Bay Area Cancer Connection, The Humanity Lab and Ever Forward Club. She has served as board chair of The Biomimicry Institute, AIDS and Breast Cancer Emergency Fund.

“We are very delighted to welcome Cynthia Hester as Board Chair,” said City Year Sacramento Vice Chair Jen Ablog. “Cynthia is an extraordinary leader, and she is deeply committed to supporting City Year’s mission, corps, students and schools.”
