The first two weeks of school have been exhilarating and inspiring as we begin our 11th year of service in Los Angeles! Our AmeriCorps members have stepped into schools all across the city to ensure our most vulnerable students receive the extra attention they need to stay in school and on track to graduate — college and career ready.
Our idealistic change-agents, 270 strong, are determined to provide the students of Los Angeles with positive, developmental relationships, individualized academic supports, and opportunities to develop social-emotional skills that can help prevent the detrimental effects of poverty on our city’s students.
At City Year, we take idealism very seriously. For us, it is not only a positive mindset or attitude but also a set of skills that can be learned and put into practice on a daily basis. We are committed to tapping the idealistic power of our young AmeriCorps members to achieve transformational change for students and a positive culture and climate for schools.
Through the power of teamwork, fueled by a deep belief in the power of our young people, our AmeriCorps members will tend to the whole child with open hearts and minds. We know that consistent monitoring combined with steadfast encouragement can lead to amazing results both in and out of the classroom.
We invite you to join us on this year-long journey. Follow all of our students' wins — big and small — with #makebetterhappen.
