City Year New Hampshire’s 15th Annual Global Youth Service Day sponsored by Bank of New Hampshire
On Friday, April 22nd, City Year New Hampshire celebrated Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) which was made possible with support from Youth Service America and Bank of New Hampshire. with projects at each of our eight elementary schools. GYSD is a day which mobilizes millions of young people across the globe to perform community service projects in their communities and highlight the importance of being an active and engaged citizen.
Bank of New Hampshire served as the Lead Sponsor of our Global Youth Service Day at our three west-side schools, Gossler Park, Northwest, and Parker-Varney, with over 700 3rd through 5th graders joining nine Bank of New Hampshire employees to complete a variety of service projects.
At Gossler Park, students, CYNH AmeriCorps Members, and Bank of New Hampshire employees worked throughout the morning to help local animal shelters by making no-sew fleece blankets and toys to help cats stay active while living at the animal shelter.
Bank of New Hampshire employees, students, and AmeriCorps Members worked to beautify the grounds at Northwest Elementary School by tirelessly cleaning and mulching the garden areas in front of the school and outlining with tape a hopscotch grid on the playground that students would later paint that day.
At Parker-Varney school, Bank of New Hampshire employees, students, and AmeriCorps Members mulched and cleaned the grounds. One Bank of New Hampshire employee even led a group of students to pick up trash around the school.
One employee mentioned that she “enjoyed working with students and seeing their excitement” about service and Global Youth Service Day.
Together students, Bank of New Hampshire employees and AmeriCorps members were able to complete a successful Global Youth Service Day where they were able to help not only the schools, but the community at large. “We had a blast” said one Bank of New Hampshire employee and another said she “enjoyed working with students and seeing their excitement.”
