Your service year will be challenging. Outlined below are the ways that City Year will prepare and support you in your work this year and beyond.

The power of teamwork and collaboration

We value dialogue and creating environments where our differences are supported and celebrated. Your experience will be most rewarding when you have a growth mindset to learn about yourself, your students, partners and the world around us.

Before you begin in-school service, you’ll go through pre-service training. Pre-service training is three weeks of preparation and community building aimed at establishing the foundation of knowledge you’ll need to succeed.

Ongoing service support is provided by Impact Managers and Team Leaders who manage your team, as well as School Partnerships Directors, Instructional Coaches and the AmeriCorps Member Experience team.

Ongoing learning & development days throughout the year ensure that you and your team continue to build classroom skills and expand upon the foundation of pre-service training.

Additionally, you’ll have regular visits from a City Year Instructional Coach who will provide support and insight into your service with students and offer you feedback on your service.

We also want to help you prepare for whatever comes next in your professional journey. Career planning and development support is provided throughout the year through informational events and conversations with your manager.
