Friends of City Year is a volunteer group of successful, socially conscious, and motivated professionals who are committed to supporting and promoting CYGP, consistent with the vision and goals of the larger City Year organization and the national service movement. The committee works to cultivate a sustainable and diverse network of community and action-oriented young professionals, dedicated to the advancement of City Year Greater Philadelphia.
WHO WE ARE
Michael is a Senior Manager of Global Strategy and New Product Development at DFC Global Corp., a leading, international, diversified non-bank financial services company responsibly serving unbanked and under-banked consumers. Prior to joining DFC Global Corp, Mr. Ettinger served as a Vice President of Global Commercial Banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he conducted relationship management duties for middle-market businesses with annual sales of $20 million to $2 billion. Mr. Ettinger also was the Chairman of Community Volunteers at Bank of America where he managed the bank's greater Philadelphia territory’s charitable and volunteer efforts for over three years.
Alex is an Associate in the Philadelphia office of the law firm of Reed Smith LLP. Alex received a law degree from Rutgers University School of Law – Camden and a B.S. in Economics from the University of Delaware. In addition to his work with City Year Greater Philadelphia, Alex is a volunteer in the Philadelphia Reads Power Partners program and Philabundance.
Katie Lally is a Strategy & Operations Business Analyst at Deloitte Consulting. Since Katie joined Deloitte Consulting in August 2013, she has gained project experiences in Finance Transformations for Global Life Sciences companies. At Deloitte, Katie co-leads the Deloitte and City Year Mentorship Program, which provides mentoring and career development trainings to City Year Team Leaders. Katie graduated from Penn State University in May 2013 Cum Laude, earning an honors degree from the Schreyer Honors College and a minor in economics. Before joining Deloitte, Katie interned at the Vanguard Group in the Portfolio Review Department.
Mairin Matthews is a Special Education teacher at Young Scholars Kenderton Charter School. She received her Bachelors of Science in Education from Temple University. Prior to teaching, Mairin participated in two AmeriCorps programs. She completed a year of service with the National Civilian Community Corps in the Pacific Region, where she worked at several non-profits along the West coast. She then completed a second year of service working at City Year Philadelphia, serving at South Philadelphia High School.
Mairin currently is piloting a self-contained Learning Support program at Young Scholars Kenderton where she teaches 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students. She has also taught in Emotional Support classrooms and runs an after school Drama club program at her school. Mairin has an undeniable passion for teaching and is committed to working towards educational equality in this country.
Damon is a business analyst in the Consulting practice. He joined Deloitte two years ago and has assisted clients in Business Model Transformation including; deployment model assessments, project management and business case development.
Prior to joining Deloitte he spent a year and a half as an external auditor at a Big 4. His primary clients were public utilities and consumer product companies. Damon’s CPA certification, accounting experience and project experience enable him to provide a high level of service to clients.
Nolan Tully is an associate at Drinker Biddle & Reath, LLP, and represents clients in a variety of insurance and commercial disputes. Nolan focuses his practice on life insurance and annuities matters as well as financial fraud-related litigation and software licensing litigation. Nolan has successfully represented several insurers in declaratory judgment actions seeking to have STOLI policies declared void and has represented insurers in alleged fraud and Ponzi scheme cases and RICO cases. Nolan’s practice also focuses on long-term care insurance issues. He represents insurers with respect to regulatory compliance issues, policy drafting and litigation. Nolan has represented clients in litigation relating to long term care insurance benefits, policy lapses and fraud. Finally, Nolan also focuses much of his practice on representing software industry clients in disputes arising from software implementations, alleged software defects, and licensing issues.
Prior to joining Drinker Biddle & Reath, Nolan received his JD from Villanova University School of Law in 2008, and his B.A in 2005 from the University of Pennsylvania, concentrating in international relations. After law school, Nolan worked as a law clerk for the Hon. Eduardo C. Robreno at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Nolan worked extensively on the administration of MDL-875, the asbestos products liability multi-district litigation assigned to Judge Robreno.
Tom is a partnership and strategic development specialist for nonprofits and social enterprise. Tom's focus domestically and abroad is energizing people and organizations across the social impact sector to aggregate financial and intellectual resources toward common purpose: changing the way people think about addressing entrenched social problems.
Starting his career as an City Year Corps Member in San Jose, CA, Tom has since worked extensively around the United States and internationally in community building, fund and business development, programming, international civic engagement and community organizing. Tom is currently launching and directing the philanthropic division of Inkster Inc., Inkster Cares, and is active on several boards and professional associations around the United States, in addition to his consulting interests.
