On Friday, May 29th City Year Sacramento hosted its 2nd Annual Ripples of Hope Gala and with the support of sponsors, generous donors and community partners raised $150,000 to help put more AmeriCorps members to work across the schools served in Sacramento.
As guests arrived to the California Museum they were power greeted by AmeriCorps members the way that the students at each of the schools City Year serves are greeted each morning. The evening continued on to the courtyard where guests had the opportunity to enjoy AmeriCorps members speaking about their year of service, a family-styled meal and an engaging auction from David Sobon.
As a reflection on the last three years, the evening honored those founding sponsors who committed $300,000 to help begin City Year’s impact in Sacramento in 2012 including AT&T, Bank of America, Cisco, Sacramento Region Community Foundation, Social Venture Partners of Sacramento and Walmart. With the generosity of their three year commitments a total of 200 AmeriCorps members have had the opportunity to serve with City Year, growing to six schools in the Sacramento community and serving 3,500 students each day.
City Year also recognized the newest Team Sponsor, Kaiser Permanente who has generously committed $300,000 to help grow City Year’s impact in Sacramento.
The evening took a look back on the year of service of this year’s City Year AmeriCorps members and the hard work they have put in with the students at their schools.
“I am inspired daily by their selflessness and their tireless commitment to improving the lives of their students,” said Executive Director Jake Mossawir. “Each corps member has a unique story to tell about the students they work with and why they decided to serve with City Year Sacramento.”
It is with the dedication of the AmeriCorps members throughout the year, and the commitment of the generous sponsors and community champions that City Year has had the opportunity to continue to serve in Sacramento.
